People often hear the word of famous miniature cars, and think of little matchbox vehicles. Most people know or have heard about them. Another toy company in the U. S. Would identify itself with these types of cars and trucks. The history of the toys is a must for getting a collection going. Knowing your history of the company, will lead to the right conclusions on originality, true worth, and if it is a bargain to purchase it or not.

Individuals are often shocked to learn that the matchbox originated from the English isle that was a small company. The designer and part owner was named Mr. Odell. There was a larger version of the toy already being produced by the company, but he scaled it down for his daughter to take to the school room. Apparently, her teacher had told the students they could not bring in any toys that would not fit into the small size of a match box.

The company at the time, was known as Lesney, and distributed through another company named Moko, and was known as Moko Lesney. After the company went bankrupt, all the privileges to the design and distribution went to that company. However, when considering collecting the toy, know that the original distributing name with Lesney with be imprinted on the cars or trucks.

The die-cast model of cars and truck, were skillfully planned to be a limited editions which made them much more valuable. After a limited time on the market production stopped on their retail market for the particular vehicles. In today’s market this makes the cars and trucks very valuable and desirable.

Collecting the cars means knowing that originals were packaged in sun yellow small boxes, in the style and shape of boxes of matches. When considering purchasing a vehicle that does not include the bright yellow box, then look at other aspects of the identifying markings on it, such as the Moko label. The issue of how much the car is desired depends on the type of car or truck, like the die-cast ambulance from the mid 1970s. This vehicle is an example of the type of model to look for.

Conditions of all of the vehicles is important, as well as the boxes that they came in. It is important when thinking of buying a collectible, versus the cost of it. All antiques or new classics cars, play into the value and cost of it. Consider it carefully, and make the decision if it is in line with personal desires to own it.

People that are new to the game of collecting die-cast vehicles, might not understand that not only are the cars and trucks of the Lesney and Moko design collectible, but so are the other publications that were produced at that time. Often the print publications are just as worthy of collecting than the cars or truck. Kids are hard on most things, and this does not exclude the paper that were included in the boxes.

Knowing facts about history does pay off, especially in the case of collecting these particular rare vehicles. By being knowledgeable about them might fend off slick dealers that will sell you a fake. Become enchanted with the intriguing history of the company, and fall in love forever.
